Hipkins has failed with every portfolio he has touched. He is not truthful, not credible, never accountable and prone to telling porkies. Poor Labour supporters.
Lazy, no policies Labour are dreaming if they think the electorate will be impressed with a front bench made up of 3 time losers.
Labour should be relabeled the womens/Maori Party.
It’s all about DEI , absolutely no policy, nor in my opinion an ounce of credibility.
Unbelievably, within hours the inveterate liar, Hipkins , has been caught out with his “ great catch “ Naidoo in proving that his new candidate lies as much as Hipkins does.
When will these two morons learn that when you tell the truth you don’t have to remember what you said.
The history of last century has a long record of authoritarian Leftist leaders promoting people on the basis of loyalty, and sidelining (or worse) talented people who present a potential threat to them. It usually does not go well for the country.
Makes me think Labour really intends to stay in opposition for another term then spring forth with a very strong “woke” agenda and be poised to do an Adern-era radical takeover of everything we love about this country…basically because by default - NZ will be tired of the austerity budgets and keen for a light-weight party with no policies but heaps of ideology to take over the helm and promise a lolly scrabble for the lazy and apparently disenfranchised…
Sigh…
Sad for traditional Labour supporters - Albanese-isque really…dumb and dumber…
Ani, that reminded me of the old race commentators of my fathers time calling the odds for a lineup of racehorses. I would have thought more than a few will be either non starters for election or baulk at the voters starting gates. Too many old nags. I won't be backing them.
Supposedly a leopard doesn’t change its spots, and if we cast our gaze over this proposed line-up it looks (to me at least) like the same beast that ran riot last time.
Wading in as one of your few leftie commenters on here. I don't understand all the rankings, especially Craig Renney's low position. But Vanushi Walters was on Amnesty International's International governing body as youth rep before she was 20 (this was about 25 years ago, before Amnesty started to look more partisan in international affairs). But a foreign policy focus doesn't get you famous. Meanwhile Max Harris has done a lot of social justice work and pro bono advocacy as a barrister. He is a strong pro-Palestine supporter, but I can't see that as being relevant to this election. The public's interest in the Middle East has shifted to the effect on the price of fuel arising from instability and conflict - and that will likely be the main concern of the natural Labour voters of Glen Innes and Pt England.
Craig’s shocked me but Arena’s was more disappointing but what I suspected. Vanushi looks very good on paper. She hasn’t had much opportunity to demonstrate her skill yet even in opposition. Max Harris support for Palestine is fine but his apparent dislike for Jewish people who have nothing to do with what is happening elsewhere means I have zero time for him. I really do look properly at my electorate candidates individually but I can tell you now I won’t even contemplate him because of that.
Blaming an entire country and even more widely a religion for the actions of one Government shows a lack of character and discernment in my eyes. It's not as if all Israeli citizens have the same political views, any more than NZers do. It is fine to oppose the actions of the Israeli Government, but to oppose all Jews because of one Government is just anti-semitism and racists and other bigots should not be involved in running NZ.
Yes, fair enough if attitudes to Middle East politics are high on your radar. My point would simply be that the topic is unlikely to loom large this year. Less so than if an election happened to have been scheduled last year or in 2024.
No rural voice in parliament if Green Labour TPM get in. These people don't understand the rural nature of the NZ economy. We will be sold to China under Hipkins' watch.
Thanks Ani, another great analysis from you. I especially enjoyed your comments on Jackson and Prime - although scorpions may be upset with the comparison with Jackson!
He hasn’t been one who impressed me much but that is likely coloured by the bullying allegations. I’ll take your word for it on his work ethic though. What role would you see for him in a Labour govt?
McAnulty "is more relatable, more provincial, and less weighed down by the Ardern-Robertson-Hipkins years. So naturally, Hipkins has parked him where he is useful, but not too useful..."
In the seat directly behind his. Suggests trust to me

There’s a saying ‘Those who say that they didn’t mean to lie are being dishonest’.
Maybe I’m biased but Chipkins frequently comes across as being a bit, well…shifty.

No thanks.

Well said Ben, totally agree!

You have misunderstood me. I’m fine with attitudes to various conflicts. His attitudes toward Jewish people in general is what concerns me.
Gee, mediocracy in the mix.
I'm guessing the nature of the selections is an insight into Mr Hipkins rather pathetic performance to date.

Also loved your silliness with AI...
Knowing Shanan, he is a hard worker and an incredible organiser who seems likely to me to be a rising star in the future.

Labour 2026: more incompetent than ever.
Phil Twyford and Helen White - hard to imagine a more mediocre brace mentioned in a single sentence!
How the latter managed to conspire to nearly lose Helen Clark's seat at the last election (18 votes in it) is mindboggling.
How the former is still in Parliament I am not sure - I can only assume he is a strong advocate for his constituents (and good on him if he is).
